Mathematics I gives you the tools for thinking in science: real and complex numbers, algebra, trigonometry, vectors and plane geometry, functions up to the derivative, and statistics and probability. It matters because all of Mathematics II and the physics and chemistry of year 2 rest on it, and because it teaches you to model a real situation and to decide with data.
